Would you play?

Post  Jayden C. on Mon Apr 15, 2013 11:44 pm

I was considering starting up an MET troop game, but don't want to move forward on it without an interested player base.

The setting: I wanted to give people a chance to play things that they might not normally get to play in the Org (and to explore genre as written in the books rather than what is established in an Org). The idea would be this:

Not playable - Vampires, Eastern Kindred, Imbued, Mummies, Changelings and Wraiths. Obviously there will be no lost breeds, tribes, etc. I won’t outright disallow Mages, but they would be one of the most restricted things allowed. The idea is to focus on “places of power” (the places usually identified as Caerns/Glades/Nodes etc.) with a focus on the Changing Breeds with allowance for some mortals (things like hedge mages, for instance).

All other creatures would be considered based on demand, commonality in genre and ST discretion (as always better back stories = better approval chances, especially if you include a blurb about long term and short term IC and OOC goals).

I want to use cannonical settings and as such I will choose a location as the primary one for the setting and we would use those IC Caerns, Den-Realms, Wallows, Nodes, Glades etc. et al. to determine some things (available spirits, totems, etc.) The most important impact this has is a very vital thing to Garou genre in particular - this is that Caerns are generally held by a Sept and that Sept is comprised of 1 (at most 2) tribes with the occasional outlier (who has no backing and thus little sway. For examples, see the book ‘Caerns: Places of Power’). I know that some players might not like this rigidity and lack of selection, especially when used to Org Septs being highly mixed and holding entire States as territory. In genre many Septs look over much smaller areas and therefore it doesn't mean that there couldn't be an Anruth pack claiming some territory (because they can't get acceptance into the Sept due to whatever reason). This doesn’t mean that players would be forced to play only select tribes of Garou, but it would mean that certain tribes will have an easier time of access to different places (but with the whole world as the game’s territory there will be times when others will have the advantage!).

The other big experiment I want to try is this - One ST (possibly a second depending on size of player pool) and a set of permanent Narrators (number depending on number of players). STs will write plot and sometimes filter it down to a competent Narrator to run. Narrators would also be allowed to run minor scenes for the ST(s) as needed. This allows for more active players, but also for the occasional "pulling in of a helper for bigger plots" when needed. I also would attempt to allow said Narrator(s) to suggest their own short story arcs (with them keeping the ST(s) informed and in the loop). After some time the ST(s) would entertain plot suggestions from the player base (in the form of things they would like to see, or themes they would like to explore) and the more ambitious of the players might end up being allowed to be temporary Narrators to help facilitate or even run these plots. It would give the entire game a much more collaborative feel than any of us are used to and that’s exciting to me!

The time: I was entertaining 2nd and/OR 4th Saturdays of the month as a DAYTIME game to basically have "LARP ALL DAY" weekends either once or twice a month (I haven't decided on a once a month or twice a month schedule, though interest will help dictate that). This is meant to condense local LARPing into as few weekends as possible and still allow for the Sunday travel to the Cleveland OWbN game if people desire it. If people are not in favor of all day LARPING the other suggestions is the 1st Saturday of the month.

Warm seasons will likely be played at a park. With PGH having 4 cardinal directions, it might be hard to find a central location for this. Cold weather games would need a location – I’m not familiar enough with the PGH area yet and would immediately begin collecting suggestions from the player base.

Now... it may fail miserably, but I thought it would be neat to try it! I'd also have forums for downtime play.

Anyone interested in undertaking this experiment with me?

Boo! Hire someone! Smile

Spread the word on this thing and see who is interested. If I can't get at least 10 players interested, I may just start up a Tabletop Apocalypse game to get the ball rolling (and some history established) while the word and interest spreads. I have stories that I want to tell, but the Org isn't the place for them (due to ORGGENRE! and politics).

Check that stuff out! Read the rules. Start cooking up your character. In the next 24-48 hours I'll have an e-mail address ready to receive your stuff. Once we get 10 committed players we will decide on a day a time for game one.

Hooray!
