Adding Abilities to traits for ties
So this is something I've seen other games do, and NWOD MET does this too, and it's probably one of the best things they do.
The idea is, when you compare traits on ties, you add your permanent ability score onto your trait total.
For example, Garou A swings his claws at Garou B. They chop, and tie. They are both Fostern, and have maxed out physicals which is easy, so they are bidding 20 in Crinos. Garou A has 4 Brawl, while garou B has 3 Brawl. So Garou A is bidding 24, while Garou B is bidding 23. Garou A wins.
I've seen this run this way in other games, and I REALLY like it. It works out really well.
Why do this you say?
Well right now Larp is SO easy to be a jack of all trades in. Because all attributes are combined for trait comparisons and maxing out traits is so easy, it's like every PC has the same build when it comes to traits.
This would allow people's builds to actually matter. If you pump all your ability points into social retests, you'll actually be better at social challenges, etc.
Under this system, and Ahroun will actually be better at combat (most of the time, you can still focus on combat abilities as another auspice of course), A galliard will actually be better at social stuff, etc etc.
This really makes your abilities matter alot more, and makes someone who bought up to 5 in an ability, actually better at that ability than someone who bought up to 3.
This also will allow us to incorporate martial arts into the game, because Martial Arts does exactly this, you add your Martial arts rating to tie comparisons, but when it's the only ability that does that, it's super overpower, especially considering all the other shit martial arts gets.
If we instituted this rule, it would tone down martial arts alittle, by making other abilities do a similar thing, but Martial Arts would still get it's other benefits, making it more balanced.
Anyway, thoughts overall? I know I've talked to a few people about this in private and have gotten really positive feedback about it so far, so I figured I'd bring it to the general populous.

Re: Adding Abilities to traits for ties
I'm definitely for this one.
I think it will help make bring out that having 5x in an ability means you are REALLY good so likely you will do better.
I think it also helps alleviate the resource management issue of saving your retests all night etc etc.
Now if you blow retests will you be down those traits (Say I have Survival 5, I use one to retest damage, do I then only get 4 traits for it?)
Also how will Totem benefits affect this (If I have say 2 Subterfuge from a totem, do I get those 2 traits when I compare for ties?)

Re: Adding Abilities to traits for ties
I said in the original post that it would be permanent ability score, so even if you've spent some for retests, it still counts for traits.
Totems add to the ability straight out, so yes it would count for increasing your traits as well.

Is this taking effect or is this just in planning?

This and the new spend rules are just being talked about right now, though we may enact it before COSCON, haven't decided yet.
